Fulltime Mama
My name is Elizabeth, and I am the happy wife of ten years to Fabio and fulltime mama to four beautiful children: Joshua-9, Dominique 7, Israel- almost 5, Johann-3 and expecting a new baby in April 2012! We are currently living in Brazil as missionaries and life never ceases to be an adventure!!! I love motherhood with a passion and am passionate about providing a place here at MamaKnowsBest where mothers can learn, grow, and share ... pooling the wisdom of many into one big jackpot for mothers.
This herb bath is amazing when you have just given birth! I cannot recommend it highly enough! With each of my births, I have the herbs brewed ahead of time, so that as soon as we cut the cord, I can get in the herb bath and relax with baby. It is so soothing of all the sore spots, and helps heal baby's cord too. If you have a hospital birth, you may not be able to hop in immediately after the birth, but even if you do it after you get home, it will be totally worth it. I like to do these herb baths every day for about the first week postpartum.
HINT: If you are not about to give birth yourself, consider making an herb bath for a friend who is! I have made these for many friends, and believe me, she will thank you for it!

Here is the recipe:
1/2 c. comfrey
1/2 c. shepherd's purse
1/2 c. uva ursi

Put all of the above into an old sock and tie it off with a rubberband.

Bring some water to a fuzzy boil (not a rolling boil).
Add sock. (water may froth.)
Cover kettle and heat for 10 minutes at a low, fuzzy boil to make brew.
Turn off heat.

Remove one cup of the brew from kettle and pour it into the blender or food processor.
Add one whole garlic bulb. (NOT just one clove; the whole bulb. No need to peel it or anything.)
Cover blender and whir mixture.
Strain mixture from blender back into the kettle (to remove garlic peelings)
Add 1/4 c sea salt

Add contents of kettle into clean bathtub for mama and baby to soak in. :)

Tip: Babies love to bathe with mama. If your baby fusses, just put his ears under the water. It sounds like the womb and he will be immediately calm - it's amazing!

Also, the sock containing the herbs can be used as a compress to heal mama's sore areas.

These loose herbs can be ordered online from a number of places and are not too expensive. Just google it. :)
