Supermom
I am a mom of three. My kids are my life,I wouldn't know what to do with out them. My son Lucian just recently got discharged from the hospital after along haul. He has a birth defect called Esophageal atresia. It is a congenital anomaly in which the esophagus ends in a blind upper pouch. The esophagus is commonly known as the gullet, food pipe, and in babies born with EA this means that the gullet is not connected all the way to the stomach, and as result food and saliva cannot pass into the stomach. So a few days after birth they placed a G-tube (gastronomy's) in his stomach so that he could eat. It has been along road and is far from over but all worth the while. My other son Jordan is seven and my daughter Alexia is four years old. I don't really have much time to get out,but when i do i like to have a good time. I'm a pretty mellow person for the most part as long as you don't mess with my family.I love the St. Louis cardinals they are the best. I love to dance, I love music and enjoy going to concerts. I also don't mind ugly people on the outside but the ones who are like awww on the inside should just never speak to me ever not at all! Cheaters, liars, and fakes and anyone who puts on a front should all just disappear...or never talk to me again because u all stink at life!

I went into labor with Lucian at about 3:00am on Sunday morning on December 9th 2007. I tossed and turned in bed trying to get comfortable but never succeeded. Finally at about 7:30 I was starting to realize more pain and cramping.
At about 9:30am I called my mom and she came over and said she thought I needed to get to the hospital. Might I add there was tons and tons of snow and mainly ice at this time. We were probably lucky we got the doors open on the cars. I remember my mom and Travis helping me to the car, trying for me not to fall. We made it.
My brother drove us to the hospital; the main reason was that I was needing Travis at that time. But we got to the hospital safe and sound, at about 10:30am or so - and I was doubled over in so much pain.
By the time they got me dressed and in a bed, all I wanted was an epidural. When they finally got that in I could rest some. I was popping on contractions left and right and they were giving me things to try and slow them down but they just wouldn't. My bag of water never broke and they were wondering why they were having such a hard time popping it .They finally got the one and it was a huge gush, Then when it was time for me to push there was another huge gush. It was like a 12 foot radius, They even came in to measure the fluid for the baby and said it was fine. Well it turns out that anything under 24 is good and safe - and mine was well over a 42!
My whole pregnancy I told them something was not right. I vomited the whole entire time. I had poor weight gain. I had high protein in my urine. I had to lay only on my left side to breathe at all times or stand. It was horrible! I broke out into a horrible rash. All of these signs, and yet I was continuously told "everything is fine, everything is fine". And it was not.
Our son was born at 22:22pm with esophageal atresia/tef tracheomalacia, bronchomalacia and laryngomalcia, That was our main concern, and at that time we were wondering quite how to pronounce it. We quickly figured it all out and found ourselves spending the first 7 months of his life in several different hospitals. We were at St Johns and then we ended up going to Chicago. It was the worst experience of our lives, and we are lucky we have our son to this day. He is a true miracle.
He has been in and out of the hospital since he was originally discharged at 7 months old. More in than out.
Finally we have been on a straight path here for a little while, and I think we are finally going to stay there. Lucian was also diagnosed with down syndrome and recently diagnosed this last November with obstructive air sleep apnea meaning he is supposed to need some oxygen at night when he sleeps and when he naps. But we have never had a problem with him, thank the Lord. We have pretty much every monitor that the hospital has at our house and oxygen as well as home, as well as portable suction. We have used everything since we got it.
Lucian is currently eating by g tube and only gets some baby food by mouth. He will usually take up to about 4oz. but no bottle or cup by mouth at all. He does take a pacifier, though only a certain brand. Over all he is doing well. We have to go in for esophageal dilations because Lucian's esophagus looks somewhat like an hour glass. We have early intervention that comes out to work with him on different things weekly.
It has been along haul and now we are in for another unexpected one. We are going to be having another baby. We found out that I am pregnant on March 6th. My first appointment is April 8th, and I am hoping for better prenatal care than last time, or I will be finding a different doctor. Overall I will say that Lucian's surgeon doctor, David A. Rogers, is the man! He saved our son's life, and we are so grateful to him. He is highly recommended. |

Thank you for sharing this story with us. For me, it underscores the power of a mother's intuition....
