I have some neighbors who are leaders in their Christian church, and they strongly believe that Harry Potter is a great reading series. In fact, they see no problem encouraging their daughter to read the series. They say that it encourages her reading, and it is completely harmless. I don't think that they are alone in their stance in the Christian church. There are a lot of Christians who see Harry Potter as just a great read for their children, a harmless story. Are they right? Is Harry Potter just a good reading series, or is it more than that? Is introducing this white Wicca harmless? I was about ten years old at a birthday slumber party when I experienced that witchcraft is more than fantasy play. My friends and I did a seance, surrounding a girl who was flat on her back and asking the dead spirits to take over her body or such (the parents had gone to bed and left about ten of us girls alone to play). We lifted the girl up into the air, each person with two fingers on each hand under her. She was, as expected, heavy for us to lift, but then that changed. All of us noticed that she became oddly light weight. I took my fingers out from under her and noticed that she was floating in air on her own. I turned to the girl next to me who did the same thing. Simultaneously, we all noticed this as we all pulled our hands out from under her. She was floating in air at our head level, far above the ground, at a standing distance from the ground. I then screamed and ran out the front door with all the rest of the girls. I will never forget that moment when I realized that this playing around was not just fantasy but real. I never again do those things, seances, Ouija board, or such at parties. I understood that spirits are real, and it was a bit scary to mess with something stronger than myself. Okay, so that is my experience, however, there are many others that could attest to this, including my husband who also found out that the spirit realm is real. However, if my experience doesn't convince you, then consider God's word: "There shall not be found among you anyone who make his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord ...." (Deuteronomy 18:10) If we love the Lord then we embrace what he loves and reject what he hates. Perhaps, one could look at it like this: A mother says don't eat the cake. The young boy dips his finger into the frosting, reasoning that he is not really eating the cake, or is he? If God says to have nothing to do with witchcraft then are we to read fantasies about a boy witch? Honestly, we could go further in exploring this because Walt Disney was a well known Warlock. I remember his picture, in his male witch outfit, in our very secular worldly textbook at the University, as I, and the other students, studied children's literature (Cinderella and his other writings). We studied him as having been known as a male witch. It is part of history. It was shrugged off as funny by those of us who didn't know anything about God's Word. How does God feel about this? Does God mean what he says when he says have nothing to do with it? If we love the Lord then shouldn't we obey him? For those who already experiencing that Wicca is real, and who would like to get out of it., but you can't seem to loosen the grip of the spirits that have taken hold, you might want to consider the books: Turmoil in the Temple, Serpents in the Sanctuary, or Pigs in the Parlor at the website www.impactchristianbooks.com/products.asp I highly recommend these books for anyone who has become involved with the Harry Potter books. I was not raised as a Christian growing up. Myself and a lot of my friends who were involved in occultic things, and we found ourselves tormented in many ways-- my husband by floating objects, being yanked out of bed by his leg without anyone in the room, and such. I don't wish for anyone who reads books like Harry Potter to suffer in that way because Jesus can set you free! Repent, turn away from it. And, parents, be warned. Compromise is spoken of harshly by the Lord in Revelation. Don't be spewed out of his mouth as He warns in Revelation. Compromise or disobedience to God's word is not taken lightly by the Lord. God bless you all!! P.S.S. Now that Harry Potter books have a homosexual character as well, I think that Christians need to choose what side of the fence they are riding on, compromise or no compromising in obedience to the Word of God. |
