My name is Elizabeth, and I am the happy wife of ten years to Fabio and fulltime mama to four beautiful children: Joshua-9, Dominique 7, Israel- almost 5, Johann-3 and expecting a new baby in April 2012! We are currently living in Brazil as missionaries and life never ceases to be an adventure!!!
I love motherhood with a passion and am passionate about providing a place here at MamaKnowsBest where mothers can learn, grow, and share ... pooling the wisdom of many into one big jackpot for mothers.

I have one friend that calls them "swamp smoothies" and another friend that calls the "shrek shakes", but whatever you want to call them, here is the recipe:
Green Smoothie Recipe:
2 bananas
blender full of fresh spinach
some flax oil
some coconut oil
2 TBSP spirulina
kefir to blend
For flavor, either a few frozen strawberries or blueberries, OR a couple spoonfuls of natural peanut butter (Joshua's fave!)
BLEND AND SERVE!
It is really actually very good! I have made it for several friends who are not health nuts at all and they all agreed that it is actually tasty and enjoyable. :) My dear husband gets scared by the color, but even he admits that the flavor is good.
I started out seven years ago, just blending a banana, some spinach and orange juice, and it has evolved since then to what we do currently. But even if you just did that, with no extra things added, you would still be getting a lot of extra greens in you and your kiddos! We do this almost every single day as our mid-morning snack.
My Joshua hates to even touch salad with a ten foot pole, BUT he will drink this tasty smoothie down without a fuss, so at least he is getting those greens down him, and I prefer the methods that dont require a fight. ;)
Here's a picture of it. Doesn't just looking at it make you feel healthier??? By the way, the dark green color is from the spirulina. If you only use spinach, it will be lighter green.
Doesn't he look SO happy to be drinking his greens instead of having to eat them??
OOPS!! I posted the wrong picture! Here's the one showing how happy the children are with their green smoothies!!
